Omaha, Nebraska: Blessed again.
Author: admin
WOW!!! We cannot even begin to say how blessed we’ve been on our two recent trips to Omaha. Back in April, Urban Jerusalem for the first time had the opportunity to travel in order to demonstrate what a hip-hop approach to worship looks like. At first, some of the youth and young adults on our ministry team were a little nervous because they had never ministered out of state before. There were alot of thoughts circulating and we had to stay in prayer because the devil was at work, attempting to make some of us believe that these churches might not accept the concept of a “hip-hop church”. But we learned a very valuable lesson on faith that wedneday night as we pulled up to West Side church. We learned that if God is going to send us, then he’s also going to lead us and be with us every step of the way. And as soon as we stepped out of our four vehicles, we immediately felt his presence as we were greeted by some of the coolest people we had ever met. That night was BANGIN!!! If you weren’t there, then imagine several groups of young people from differen’t churches and backgrounds getting together to laugh, cry, and worship together. The West side youth really knew how to have fun. We’re still laughing at their pastor who won a dancing contest (We love you Pastor J). We came together as strangers, but left as brothers, sisters, and friends. Who would have guessed that the body of Christ would be properly illustrated by youth? Oh wait, Jesus did. But there’s more. Not long after Urban J was back at home, we were invited back to Omaha on June 13th. This time, we would be at Salem, who joined us the first time in partnership with West Side. We enjoyed watching some of their youth name off school subjects in a game that included prizes. They were so bright that we ran out of topics. We weren’t expecting answers like socio-economics and quantum physics. It was fun though. We could really tell that pastor Andre has a lot of heart for youth, he has a great group. We learned how to keep it real, and as a result, we were able to build some relationships that will last an eternity. To both churches, we love you and we appreciate all that you’ve done for us. To the youth, Continue to be who you are and know that you aren’t the only one in your generation trying to serve God. It’s tough, But your brothers and sisters in Minneapolis are only 6 hours away (If we can get our directions together. lol) Peace.
P.S. You might be seeing us again soon.
